Roméo et Juliette Opera Bastille

April 2 @ 7:30 pm May 12 @ 10:30 pm

Brought by Shakespeare to the rank of myth, the story of Romeo and Juliet had to wait until the 20th century before being incarnated in ballet thanks to the music of Sergueï Prokofiev, in 1935.

In his production created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1984, Rudolf Noureev takes advantage of this brilliant and energetic score to propose a sumptuous version, particularly cinematic.

His choreography focuses on showing the transformation of the young Romeo into a man thanks to a passionate Juliet who tragically enters adulthood.

Scenes of balls, youthful provocations and duels in a beautifully reconstructed Italian Renaissance give substance, relief and power to the passion of the lovers of Verona caught up with the ancestral hatreds of their families.
