“You make your own bed, so lie in it”

Author : Annie Bligh, my mother

Born in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon in 1930, Annie raised her family of six children in Galway. As her eldest child, she used to use this phrase in certain situations to help me realise there were consequences to bear for my actions in life. Her intent was to incite me to assume full responsibility for my decisions and realise that I could not blame others for situations I would find myself in. This helped to build and strengthen my character throughout my adult life. It helped me to be successful in my personal and professional endeavours to this very day. She also used to say “Your health is your wealth”, a reminder not to take good health for granted!
