“The foot that never went out never picked up a thorn”

Mary McLoughlin (née Gibbons) was born in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo in 1909.

The eldest of 3 children she married John McLoughlin and had 7 of her own.

She was a practical woman and was never one to want for anything. She kept bees, had an orchard and hens and always made or found a way when she needed to be resourceful.

She always encouraged her family, especially her daughters, to go out and have their own independence.  As I made my own way in the world, my grandmothers quote has served me well every time I take a step into the unknown.
